The Prime Minister and Her Majesty

The Monarch has a special relationship with the Prime Minister of Great Britain.

The Prime Minister is both appointed and dismissed by the Monarch, currently HM Queen Elizabeth II. Having been the Monarch of Great Britain for a significant period of time, she has met many Prime Ministers. She has probably read thousands of papers relating to the state and the government during her reign as The Queen. As a result, HM Queen Elizabeth has gleaned insight like no other therefore has tremendous knowledge and insight like no other person the world has ever seen.

HM Queen Elizabeth usually meets weekly with the British Prime Minister to discuss matters of the week. The Prime Minister is also invited for an Autumn weekend to Balmoral Castle in Scotland for a more informal time to discuss matters with her.

After the recent general election, HM Queen Elizabeth invited Theresa May to form a minority government to lead the Brexit negotiations over the next 2 years of this parliamentary term. It has now made a deal with the DUP in Northern Ireland. It’s a really important time to pray for our nation and its leaders.

Let’s Pray:

‘Without wise leadership, a nation falls; there is safety in having many advisers.’ Proverbs 11:14

‘Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. Let those with understanding receive guidance.’ Proverbs 1:5

‘So Moses did as the Lord commanded. He presented Joshua to Eleazar the priest and the whole community. Moses laid his hands on him and commissioned him to lead the people, just as the Lord had commanded through Moses.’ Numbers 27:22-23

Thank you God, for HM Queen Elizabeth’s relationship with the many Prime Ministers she had met over her reign. At this time, I think particularly of Theresa May, our current Prime Minister who has been re-elected. I also pray for Arlene Foster, leader of the DUP at this time as negotiations and plans to work together are put forward and published. Thank you for HM The Queen’s interest in these national matters, and the opportunity for questions and clarification between them as leaders of the nation. Give them both wise advisors to assist them in their roles.

I pray that the weekly meetings between Her Majesty and Theresa May will be valuable for them both as they serve the nation of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Impart to them Your godly wisdom to them as they listen to one another. I pray that Theresa May will receive insight from HM Queen Elizabeth where it is needed, especially on the sensitive situation in Northern Ireland. I pray that Your purposes will be done in these discussions; and that they will honour Your heart for our nation.

Be with these ladies who govern our land today. May they both be a witness to many as they aspire towards unity, trying to meet the needs of the nation. I pray for great things in this land of Great Britain because of both HM Queen Elizabeth and Theresa May. Although there are many who disagree with the Prime Minister, and who are not keen on the Royal family, I pray that You would be over their leadership and responsibilities. Cover Her Majesty’s Government with your grace and peace as laws are passed for the good of all people in the nation.

Lord, bring stability and peace to the next stage of the Brexit talks with the new minority government. Just as Moses commissioned Joshua to lead, I pray that there will be a sense of Theresa May being the right person for the role of Prime Minister at this time of transition.

I ask this is Your name, Jesus, knowing that you are over all parties and people, especially those who lead nations.

Amen.
