Succession to the British Throne

Who is next in line to the British Royal throne is well known. But will it happen as it is expected?

The official Royal website states:

‘The succession to the throne is regulated not only through descent, but also by Parliamentary statute. The order of succession is the sequence of members of the Royal Family in the order in which they stand in line to the throne. ‘

For more information on succession and the Line of Succession, see the link above.

When Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II dies, is incapacitated or abdicates, as the heir apparent, Prince Charles is likely to become the next King of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Whenever this happens, in whatever manner, it will create great change in the nation – and international changes too as the British Monarch is the Head of State for 15 Commonwealth Realms, and is the Head of the Commonwealth. There is predicted to be a period of national mourning before a State funeral. A date will then be set for the Royal Coronation of a new Monarch.

As it’s likely to be unexpected rather than predicted news, prayer is needed as national and international changes occur.

Let’s pray:

‘For God is the King over all the earth. Praise him with a psalm. God reigns above the nations, sitting on his holy throne. The rulers of the world have gathered together with the people of the God of Abraham. For all the kings of the earth belong to God. He is highly honoured everywhere.’ Psalm 47: 7-9 NLT

‘Praise the name of God forever and ever, for he has all wisdom and power. He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars.’ Daniel 2: 20-21 NLT

Thank you, God, that you are King over all the earth. We praise You that You are in control of individuals, nations and the whole world and its rulers. You reign supreme and are sitting on your holy throne.

Thank you that all the kings of the earth belong to You, Oh God. You are above them all. Thank you that You have all the wisdom and power, controlling all the world events – including the leadership changes of nations.

Thank you that you have the British Royal Family in your hand, each and every member of it. Thank you for the long reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, may this continue to be the case. Long Live The Queen! Thank you for the wisdom that Her Majesty has gleaned over the many years of her reign as the Monarch and how she leads her family. We pray that you would continue to give her jurisdiction as the Monarch for as long as you determine. You give life and take it away and we trust in you for your timing in the very important matter of a change of Monarch.

As we wait for Your timing of this change, we pray that we would be faithful to pray for her as the nations’ reigning Monarch. We also pray that you would prepare the heir apparent as the change would be a bittersweet change with the death of his beloved mother. Jesus, prepare Prince Charles & Prince William as the next heirs to the throne. Their lives are in your hands as you both remove and set up kings in the right position. Accelerate their learning as they prepare for the position as Monarch. Place the right people in the right places all around the world for this change.

Place the right people in the right places all around the world for this change. As the Monarch is the head of the British Parliament, we pray that the right people would be positioned for the changes this will create. Be with the Church of England as The Queen is the head of the Church. Prepare the Commonwealth and the Commonwealth Realms for this change too. So much will be impacted when Her Majesty is no longer the Monarch. Give wisdom and discernment to those in heading up countries and Royal Families all around the world.

‘For everything, there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest. A time to kill and a time to heal. A time to tear down and a time to build up. A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance. A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones. A time to embrace and a time to turn away. A time to search and a time to quit searching. A time to keep and a time to throw away. A time to tear and a time to mend. A time to be quiet and a time to speak. A time to love and a time to hate. A time for war and a time for peace. What do people really get for all their hard work? I have seen the burden God has placed on us all. Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.’ Ecclesiasties 3: 1-11 NLT

Lord, our nation needs you. It is already going through changes with Brexit, and this will be a big change too. We wait and pray, wait and pray for your timing Oh God.

In Your time and in Your way, may it be,
Amen.
