Royal Engagement: Prince Harry & Meghan Markle

Prince Harry is 5th in line to the British Royal Throne. He is one of HM Queen Elizabeth’s Grandchildren.

When a member of the Royal family announces an engagement, it becomes international news as family change is on the horizon. A wedding date and preparations are anticipated as a happy event for the public to witness.

Being a high profile couple, Prince Harry & Meghan’s every move will face increasing media interest in the coming days. A wedding day is a celebration that everyone sees & wants to be a part of. However, a marriage that lasts needs a deep commitment to thrive in the highs and lows of life.

They need our prayers, so let us pray for them:

‘Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.’ Ecclesiasties 4: 9-12 NLT

‘My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body. Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.’ Proverbs 4:20-27 NIV

Heavenly Father, we thank you for this couple who have captured the attention of the world with their love. As they have announced this decision to the world, we pray that you would guard their hearts as the news spreads and information is written about them.

We thank you for the history they have as a couple: the private moments, conversations and the time they have spent together in each other’s presence. We pray for the time that they have had already will be the start of a greater level of communication and commitment, a depth goes deep.  As many decisions have to be made about the future- personally, instituitionally and nationally, hold them, Lord.  Grant them sufficient support from the Royal institution and its unique dynamics of how plans have to be made, as well as their family members too. As the balance of being private and public is a fragile one, settle their hearts and minds on what is right for each side.

We pray that in this transition time between being engaged and married, that you would strengthen, encourage and shield them in the barrages of media coverage, public advice and demands, family challenges of what and who needs to be present. Furnish them with great advisors who can navigate the challenges they will face, both practically, emotionally, and spiritually too.

As they walk into the future, give them great close friends who will walk beside them with prudence, wisdom and understanding too. You know who these people are Lord, and so we ask now that you would brace them for the public and private challenges of being close friends with Prince Harry & Meghan.

Father God, as Meghan Markle has been married previously, we pray for any issues from her previous marriage that have arisen in the times that Prince Harry & Meghan have been together to be brought up and laid bare between them. We pray for a willingness to learn from the past and a positive outlook for the future for any challenges they may face as a couple. We pray for your healing touch on any matters of the heart related to marriage and family. Give them your perspective on both the past and the present as they fix their gaze on you.

Lord, most of all we pray that you, O God, would be the focus of their lives. Revolutionise their lives with your saving grace and love for them. Demonstrate your power to them in an unmistakable way that needs acknowledgement of your presence and governance in their lives. In the triple braided cord mentioned in Ecclesiastes, we pray that you, O God would be an integral part of their lives being tied and held together as a couple. We pray that you would be at the centre of their love and future together. Jesus, reveal yourself to them in a way that is undeniable to them and their families.

In Jesus name, we pray these things,
