Lead us not into Temptation…

Nearing the end of the Lord’s Prayer found in Matthew 6 it reads, ‘Lead us not into temptation.’

This is a petition and plea towards our Heavenly Father to ask him not to lead us into temptation. There are plenty of temptations around us. As a loving Father, He wants us to avoid them so that we do not fall into sin as it leads us away from God and grieves His heart.

Yet, if we find ourselves having been tempted despite our best efforts to avoid it, He is gracious and we will help us get through it if we keep our eyes on Him. It will become a test of our character and faith as we walk that path. The key to surviving temptation is keeping our eyes on Him.

‘Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!’ Matthew 26:41 NLT

‘And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death. So don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters.’ James 1:13-16 NLT

Father God, there are so many temptations around me that taunt me. They bring the lure of a lie: that my life could be better with things, people or something else. These things entice me towards thinking that my life could be better if…

As I think about the Royal family who, being part of the upper-class society, could potentially get anything they desire, they need my prayers. Prayers to help them avoid temptations that would change their life should they be enticed. Lord, I pray that as they see luxury most days, I pray that you would guard their hearts and minds against temptation. Give them the strength to avoid it at all costs, whether it be things or people that would entice and cause trouble, or places that are not suitable for them to go.

I pray that you would keep them from being misled, lead them away from temptations. Keep their eyes, minds, hearts and bodies centred, so that they would maintain the dignity and honour that the Royal Family upholds. Keep them from foolishness, especially from the eyes of the media.

‘Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone.’ James 1:2-6 NLT

However, Lord, there are times when I seemingly get into the wrong situation, or with the wrong person at the wrong time even though I have tried my best to avoid such situations. It is in these times that I need your grace, wisdom and strength to endure like never before.

When troubles come to members of the Royal family, intentionally or not, I pray that you would give them the strength to endure the media’s attention. Lead the Royal Family to you, the source of all wisdom and strength during testing times. Uphold them, from the morning until night, with your mighty hand each troubled day. Sustain them with prudent, discreet friends, and the privacy they need with the wisdom to know what if anything to do about it. If they are at fault in any way, give them the insight to know how to manage the situation they find themselves in.

Lord, lead them not into temptation. By your hand, lead them to You and your heart for them, each and every day I pray,
