Honorary Chaplains to the Sovereign

HM The Queen has just over 30 Honorary Chaplains to the Sovereign who are part of the Ecclesiastical Household, and part of the Royal Household

Honorary Chaplains are appointed by Her Majesty The Queen. HM The Queen has a personal Honorary Chaplain who is from the clergy in the UK. This is a very distinguished unique role, and the individual is given the title, QHC. The role of the Honorary Chaplains is to serve the spiritual needs of Her Majesty and her Royal households. The Royal households are in England and in Scotland.  This honorary role involves the chaplains preaching occasionally at The Chapel Royal in St James’ Palace, London. They also conduct services at significant national services for Her Majesty and the House of Windsor. This includes commemorative services, weddings and funerals.

Pray:

‘Kings take pleasure in honest lips; they value the one who speaks what is right.’ Proverbs 16:13

‘Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them – not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.’ 1 Peter 5:2-3

I thank you that HM Queen Elizabeth has Honorary Chaplains who can be called upon to resource her, her family and her Royal Household. Aid these chosen men and women to continue to demonstrate the respect and leadership that they have earned and shown over their years of service. Keep them humble in the work that you have given them, yet courageous to speak honestly when it is necessary. Continue to grow in these Honorary Chaplains, a continual willingness to learn about You and their faith in Jesus their King.

Gladden the heart of HM The Queen in appointing these esteemed people around her as they pray with and for her. As they assist HM The Queen in her taking services, encourage them. I pray that the Honourable Chaplains would devote themselves firstly and foremost to serving you, O God, as their highest calling. May they be servant-hearted towards their HM Queen Elizabeth, the Royal family members and HM’s household.

I pray the Honorary Chaplains’ example, conduct and faith will strengthen the Royal Family, individually and corporately as they talk about matters close to their heart. Give these Chaplains an understanding of the unique environment the Royal family and Royal household personnel live and work in. May they have an abundant knowledge in being discrete and discerning. Grant the Honorary Chaplains the words to say especially when people they serve need understanding ears or suffering in some way, needing an avenue to talk in private.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen
