HM The Queen, Tragedies & Disasters

Her Majesty is the Head of the Nation of Great Britain & Northern Ireland.

As such, her role, and that of the British Royal Family is to represent the people of the nation especially in times of tragedy and disaster. This is to show interest, sympathy and understanding to those that have suffered in one way or another through tragedy and disaster.

Her Majesty leads the members of the Royal family in this type of response. Their concern and support are demonstrated to the people of the nation by visiting in person, places or people touched by disaster, terror or tragedy. HM Queen Elizabeth also writes open letters of condolence to those affected. Often just their physical presence visiting those going through difficult times is enough to show that the nation has heard of their situation.

‘Lord, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them.’ Psalm 10:17

‘Blow the ram’s horn in Jerusalem! Announce a time of fasting; call the people together for a solemn meeting. Gather all the people—the elders, the children, and even the babies. Call the bridegroom from his quarters and the bride from her private room. Let the priests, who minister in the Lord’s presence, stand and weep between the entry room to the Temple and the altar. Let them pray, “Spare your people, Lord! ‘ Joel 2: 15-17

Oh Lord, when disasters come, terror hits and tragedies are too much for me to comprehend, I turn to you. There is nowhere else to go as there is so much brokenness around not only in the world, but the nation of Great Britain and even in my neighbourhood. But, the brokenness that comes with widespread devastation – loss of life, homes, communities, families and businesses is even harder get my head around.

The frequent question that is asked is ‘Why Lord?’ This is often an easy question to ask, but the hardest to know the answer to, as you don’t always tell us, and it hurts! Lord Jesus, hear the cries of the helpless, hurting, broken, homeless and wounded. You know them each by name. Be their everything in these times I ask, Jesus. Provide everything that these people need – physically, emotionally and practically. You are all they have.

As Her Majesty considered all the different situations that have hit the national streets and news recently, I pray that you would give her Your overall perspective on it. As a nation that has more suffered so many tragedies in the last few months give HM Queen Elizabeth, and members of the Royal family, your mind and heart as people and places are visited, and letters are written. Provide them with right words of comfort, understanding, and sympathy for each situation. Also, grant them the time needed to add these unexpected things into their diaries.

As these things happen, I pray that you would hear the cries of the people of Great Britain saying ‘Spare your people, Lord!’ We have had enough of these tragedies!

I ask you to raise up people to serve, people to love, people to care, people to give, people to go, people to fight for justice, people to stand in the gap for the helpless and those struck by disaster.

Most importantly, I pray that you would raise up and gather people to PRAY for our nation, its leadership and structures in place at times of disasters. Raise up and gather people to pray for HM The Queen as she represents the nation. As the nation shakes with so many terrible situations in such a short amount of time, Lord, the nation needs You – Your presence, Your answers, Your justice, Your love and Your peace that passes all understanding. Great Britain & Northern Ireland needs You desperately as I pray…

Come Lord Jesus…
