For Yours is the Kingdom…

“For Yours is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever and ever.’

This is the last line that is used to complete the Lord’s Prayer. It is not written in the Bible and there is some discussion about it. However, it is used, therefore I will use it as the basis for another prayer for the Royal Family.  There are 3 elements of it – kingdom, power and glory. All are important biblical elements.

According to R.T. Kendall1, the origin of the phrase used to complete the Lord’s prayer goes back to King David in 1 Chronicles 29. David prayed as he handed over the building of the Temple to his son, Solomon in the presence of all the people of Israel:

‘David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly, saying,

“Praise be to you, Lord, the God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. Wealth and honour come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name.’
1 Chronicles 29: 10-13 NLT

Pray:

Kingdom:

‘His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself…He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:
KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.’ Revelation 19: 12&16 NKJV

‘But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.’ Matthew 6:33 NLT

Father, I want to thank you that You are exalted as head over all. As Revelation writes, You are the King of Kings which means that you have the ultimate authority over the Royal Family and every Royal family that rules in the world. Just as King David acknowledged that You were over all, I pray that the Royal Family would know this to be true and would look to You for their wisdom and authority. Remind them that You give and take away authority. As David said in 1 Chronicles 29 mentioned above,

‘…all wealth and honour come from you, you are the ruler of all things.’

I pray that the Royal Family would seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Lord, make them hungry for You in a way that they have never experienced before, for the wisdom and insight that you give. Make the Monarch a great leader of the nation and of the Commonwealth because You rule in their heart.

Power:

“And now I [Jesus] will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.” Luke 24: 49 NLT

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8 NLT

Father God, I am weak without the power of your Holy Spirit. Lord, I pray that you would breathe on the Royal Family with the power of your Holy Spirit. Fill them with You, enabling them to do what you’ve asked of them. When they feel weak, and don’t have the words for the conversations, speeches and many meetings, I ask that you would fill them with your power from heaven.

Lord, as I am praying for revival to come to this land, don’t leave out the Royal Family. Come Holy Spirit to the Royal Residences and the Royal Household and the Royal Family and all the people connected with the British Royal Family. Revive them like never before. Make them powerful witnesses to their families, this nation and the nations around the world that you are on the throne.

Glory:

‘The shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. It was just as the angel had told them.’ Luke 2:20 NLT

Heavenly Father, just as the shepherds were amazed after seeing Your son Jesus that had been born, I pray that as I pray I would give all the glory back to you. You are the one I pray to, look to and honour, for who you are and what you have done for me. I want to give you glory Lord.

I pray that the members of the Royal Family would come to know you as their Saviour. I pray each one would give you all the glory you deserve for all the prayers you have answered. Lord, show yourself to the Royal Family in such a tangible way that they know that they have seen you with their own eyes. Let them exclaim like the shepherds to all who are around them, and give you all the glory.

Lord,
Yours is the Kingdom,
Yours is the Power,
Yours is the Kingdom,
Forever,

Amen.
